History

Bonsyde House Hotel is an elegant and historic Scottish country house, once the home to Professor Charles Wyville Thomson.

Professor Charles Wyville Thomson was a nineteenth century oceanographer credited with being the first to chart all seven seas. The hotel retains many of the fine period features of his time. The elegant wood panelling of the reception area is said to be the oak from his last ship.

These photos of the hotel are of when it was the home to a Scottish family who has since emigrated to America. They have fond memories of the house and have recently contacted us with these treasured photographs taken in the 1940s.
